Protest: Divest from Israeli Apartheid

RALLY AT UC REGENTS MEETING TO CALL FOR DIVESTMENT FROM ISRAELI APARTHEID Meet at 10:45 a.m. at Downtown Berkeley BART Station to go to protest with others if you are in the East Bay. This protest will commemorate the Sabra and Shatila massacres of 1982 by demanding that the UC system cease fudning Israeli occupation of Palestine as well as a system of apartheid within Israel. The UC Regents meeting this year takes place during the 20th anniversary of the massacre of innocent Palestinian civilians at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. Current Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was Defense minister when Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982, and Israeli forces under his command authorized their allies in the Lebanese militias to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and massacre up to 2,000 unarmed Palestinians, mostly women and children. SUSTAIN (Stop U.S. Tax-Funded Aid to Israel Now) will perform street theatre to call attention to the demolition of Palestinian homes by the Israeli army. SUSTAIN has initiated a campaign against the Caterpillar corporation to pressure it to stop selling equiptment to the Israeli Defense Forces. This equipment is used to commit war crimes against the Palestinian people.
