It seems like noon might be a better time. 9 seems pretty early. Why does it need to be then?

We want to make sure we make the news for the day. Plus, a few members have prior obligations.

Can you take some time to fill us in on something related to this 'demo,' like some facts or other substantial bits of information. Makes it much easier to understand, and in the cases of certain hysterics, makes for good reading (if it does not blather on too much).

If you are referring to the Chron's series on homelessness, I think it is excellent work. It ain't rocket science, but neither are the subjects. Also, with a election that is making homelessness an issue, well timed.

The demonstration has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 4, 2003 @ 11:30 PM in conjunction with the Coalition on Homelessness' planned action.

The demo is in response the lies, distortions and half-truths some well meaning, but ignorant reporters wrote about the homeless
All of those reported received a generous stipend, sometimes as much as $5,000. The reporters
were duped into thinking many things were worse off [in order to garner sympathy] then they actually were.

The bottom line is that these articles hurt more then they help because many people who belong to the organization-Mobile Residents for Civil Rights,
were told by the SFPD to move from areas which they had previously been left alone.

Unless someone has been homeless or works with the homeless regularly ,
You may find some truth in the articles. However, the reality of the situation is much different. Folks find that their belongings have been summarily seized without benefit of the same rights "housed" people enjoy in a supposedly "free" society and lerft to die on the street.

Thase articles tend to scapegoat the homeless for problems which are often so overwhelming, that is would seem natural to lose one's self in a haze of drugs, just to escape the despair.

The sad fact is that SF has essentially constructed NO affordable housing and worst of all, turns people into welfare recipients with no hope of escape.

Personally, I haved worked along with individuals from the Port of San Francisco to rehabilitate Warm Water Cove Park on 24th Street, cleaning up garbage, spreading mulch and being a friend to the poor in the area and frankly , I find it very offensive to have some greenhorn reporter suggest that park is littered with syringes and that there are junkies hanging out there 24/7 when I know the reality of the situation is different.

I invite all to drop the park most afternoons [weather permitting] and
help to make Warm Water Cove Park a more hospitable place
to the people and wildlife which frequent there.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
