Come join the local Anarchist soccer team, Kronstadt FC. Tuesday 6pm at Bushrod Park, North Oakland.
Are you an anarchist living in the bay area and would like to play in the best anarchist soccer team in town? You're in luck! Come to the next practice for Kronstadt FC on Tuesday 9/9 at 6pm at Bushrod Park in North Oakland. Kronstadt FC is a non-gender-specific team (meaning it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl or neither) and prior playing experience is not necessary. We're very friendly.
Bushrod Park is located on 59th St. between Shattuck and Telegraph in North Oakland near the border of Berkeley. If youk're on foot, the closest BART station would be Ashby BART. Just walk a few blocks east toward Shattuck and south toward 59th St. If you're on Shattuck, when you see a tennis court, that's Bushrod Park. When you walk in past the basketball court, you'll see a big field on the other side of the fence. Usually there'll be a few other pickup games happening on the same field, so look for Kronstadt FC's practice, which will be smaller than the main pickup game on the field with mostly guys. Bring a ball if you've got one.
Also we will be playing a game against the local communist team, Left Wing, on Sunday 9/14 (location to be announced) which will be the second game in a three game tournament. The first game ended in a 2:2 tie.

Is it alright If I bring a football? I mean American style football.
what the fuck is this shit about...its great to have a soccer team and all, but fuck we are not in cancun...so while the nationals in cancun get there ass kicked this time around...lets play soccer in oakland, while there is a fucking protest in richmond
what the fuck kinda logic is that...sorry if my thoughts on this choice of practice location and time is harsh...but fuck come play a little in richmond and recruit some of the folks by adding a little fun to the protest or something
in struggle - chuck

You know, I'm all for going to protests and I hope as many people show up to Richmond BUT you shouldn't expect every activist in town to be at the fucking protest in richmond.
There are many reasons, especially in an area like the bay area, why some people may choose different strategies and tactics than your standard march/rally/civil disobedience package. What we need is respect and diversity in our methods NOT dictating to everyone what they need to do in order to be deemed worthy of being an activist.

but sf, don't you know that if your protest doesn't hit some imagined "critial mass" (and i don't mean the bicycle thing), then "the revolution" has no chance of materializing? it's all about the numbers, comrade. "the revolution" comes when the quantitative ascends, not the qualitative. masses make change, not individuals. forget the fact that "the revolution" of the activist is a vastly different thing from the revolution imagined by anarchists, anti-state communists, and other genuine radicals interested in social transformation. activists only want to change things enough for some of them (and/or their friends) to make their visions matter to those already in control. that's what they mean by "speaking truth to power." similarly, they are only interested in numbers insofar as they can then make a claim to "democracy"--which means for them the rule of the mobilized. see you on the field of play.
you know nil is right. it is wrong to expect people in struggle to show solidarity with one another. so fuck mayday too.
on mayday, i'm sure nil will be showing the power of individual libertarian-anarchist revolution by reporting promptly to work, because, hey, mayday is the "the revolution" of the activist, the rule of the quantitative.
if you celebrate holidays nil, you already accept the principle chuckE is referring to, so fuck you for being a hypocrite. if not, fuck you for being a hypocrite anyway.
ha!

nessie,
ok, soccer can be revolutionary, but i stand by the comment that the revolution wont be fought on the soccer field.
and there are times where it is necessary for all of us to be doing the same thing at the same time... perhaps you were smoking up in the bathroom when the rest of us learned that people in struggle dont always enjoy these tactical luxuries that certain decadent anarchists parade about as an excuse for inactivity or poor planning and organizational skills.
mutual aid, if you believe in it as a principle, is a pretty constricting of individualism and freedom to do what you want. in the context of present-day america, it seems to me mutual aid would dictate at least some kind of good faith solidarity with activist/organizers at "important" moments.

i'm not going after the person who basically said "different strokes for different folks"
i'm going after nil for being a self righteous fuckhead and pretending that this is about his opposition to some kind of principle.

<<soccer can be revolutionary>>
no it can't.
period.

chalker is upset at what s/he (but probably he) sees as my lack of principle. tough. the principles i stand by and use are: mutual aid, solidarity, and direct action. a critical appraisal of all of those things is helpful as well--otherwise they are empty slogans instead of real activities engaged in by real individuals. i am in favor of mutual aid and solidarity, not charity and conformity. when chalker spoke of may day, that was a hoot. i never work on may day; not out of some kind of "duty" to "the revolution" but because i recognize that internationally, those who live by selling their labor power have only limited means to remind themselves (and others) that they are the ones who matter most in terms of the smooth functioning of industrial capitalism. i stand in solidarity with them because i hope that they will stand in solidarity with me when the time comes. the reciprocal nature of this is what makes it solidarity and not charity. i don't decide to engage in actions based on the supposed righteousness of the target and the justifications for the action--and definitely not based on the self-righteousness of the organizers. i decide based on my assessment of the effectiveness (admittedly an elusive thing) of the given action, not on how shrill the organizers/activists are. it also helps if i know that my allies and friends will be there, so i can be part of a real affinity group. that was what made march 20 so cool. the point is that i will make the decisions about how i use my time to confront or ignore the current structure of modern life. no amount of hypocrisy-baiting will change my mind. if chalker (or any other moralist) can come up with real argument in favor of the sort of mandated "solidarity" that masquerades as freedom, i'm all ears.
