MICHAEL SAVAGE, FIRED BY MSNBC FOR TELLING A GAY CALLER TO "GET AIDS AND DIE," IS PICKED UP BY SAN FRANCISCO CLEAR CHANNEL STATION KNEW 910 AM
Michael Savage's MSNBC TV show, The Savage Nation, was cancelled on July 7 because of an on-air homophobic diatribe during which Savage labeled a caller a "sodomite" and told him to "get AIDS and die." MSNBC spokesman Jeffrey Gaines remarked on Savage's firing, "His comments were extremely inappropriate and it was an easy decision." Since then, Savage's radio show
has been pulled from stations in Los Angeles, San Diego and elsewhere.
But this hateful talk-show host is still on the air in San Francisco!
Despite knowledge of Savage's long history of hate-filled commentary, usually targeting women, immigrants, people of color, and queers, San Francisco Clear Channel radio station KNEW 910 AM (http://www.910knew.com) added the "Savage Nation" to its schedule just last week. Clear Channel is the monstrous media corporation that is known as the poster child of what's wrong with media deregulation. The company owns 1,200 stations in the U.S. and promotes a cookie-cutter style of radio that has accelerated the homogenization of the airwaves. It's also the company that blacklisted "Imagine" from its playlist after September 11, 2001 and sponsors pro-war rallies to whip up support for the war against Iraq.
TAKE ACTION - CALL KNEW 910 AM TODAY!
We need to tell KNEW and Clear Channel managers that Michael Savage's behavior is unacceptable in our community. Please call them today and tell them you are offended by Savage's hate-mongering and will boycott the station as long as he's on it. Also let them know that you plan to contact advertisers to urge them to drop their association with the Savage Nation.
