"Knob Timber Sale" Update: Auction Postponed Indefinitely
The "Knob Timber Sale" In the "Klamath Natl. Forest" has been postponed until further notice.
To the cautious relief of concerned people everywhere, the auction of the "Knob Timber Sale" located in "Klamath National Forest" was postponed until further notice. It was to have been sold to a private timber company, June 17.
Pressure on the "Forest Service" to stop logging in this area of the Salmon River has come from legal measures taken by the Environmental Protection Information Center (E.P.I.C.) and the Klamath Forest Alliance as well as Forest Defenders who put up three tree-sits in an adjacent Timber Sale and held an action camp leading up to the auction date of the Knob sale. The camp drew as many as 50 people throughout the week, both local and from out of the area, who where prepared to stop the logging through direct action if neccesary.
Many of the proposed logging areas that make up the sale were surveyed by people who attended the camp and were found to have a high percentage of beautiful native forest with large, old, fire-resistant trees. Some of the areas or "units" of the sale are within a couple hundred feet of the Salmon River.
