Researchers paid by the government developed the internet and helped develop mainframe and microcomputers. NOAA researchers who had to make buoys containing lots of equipment in a very small space developed approaches used for private applications.
The government controlled or heavily regulated phone water and electricity companies laid lots of phone and electricity lines with tax money, like the rural electrification project of the WPA. People who work for a living, unlike capitalists, laid the lines.

Workers built this computer. Capitalists exploited them.
