Coming out of the tremendous success of the 50,000-person Civil Rights March on Washington on April 1, 2003, we must develop a national plan of action and response when the Supreme Court announces their decision in the University of Michigan affirmative action cases. When the Supreme Court rules on these cases regardless of the decision, a chapter in American history will be closed and a new one will open. We must fight to realized the long-deferred promise of American freedom, equality, and integration, the promise of Brown v. Board of Education.
We are at a critical juncture. Everyone who came to the March on Washington April 1 knows the joy and pride that we felt as we marched down Constitution Ave., racially integrated, bold, and spirited, but April 1 was only the beginning. Youth all around the country now are waking up all across the country and beginning to recognize our own social power. All supporters and organizers of the new civil rights movement are urged to come. Join us! Send a contingent, delegation, or representative from your school or organization!
