Wow! I thought America was the land of the free. What happened to freedom of speach? Glad I live the England and can protest with out been Shot with wooded bullets and gassed with CS! Shame on them!
by matthew
when they said "land of the free," they meant "land of the free" access to shopping malls, and cheap gasoline, not "land of the free" speech.

Have any of you considered buying paintball guns and large quantities of paintballs filled with red paint? These are non-lethal, will blind the cops wearing visors, and offers you a chance to warn them ahead of time that should they use their "non-lethal" weapons you'll likewise use your's. If I were leading these demonstrations, it's what I would do. Why should any of you be a sitting duck?

...is good for the gander. Cops do not have a license to inflict indiscriminate pain and suffering on people who are merely excercising their Constitutional rights. A little water-soluble red paint on their uniforms is the LEAST those bastards deserve for attacking defenseless people in such a manner.

Oh and by the way, "Nessie", your use of the phrase "Assaulting an officer is a serious felony.." makes it quite clear that you're either a cop, related to one, or somehow involved in the "justice" system in Oakland. Congratulations, you just outted yourself.

This is still America. It's not a felony to defend oneself against unprovoked agression. And wearing a badge does not give anyone the right to wipe their ass with the Constitution.

Uh, David, the ILWU workers were supportive of our action. And they all (or at least the first and second shifts) got a paid day off. It's the management we're targeting, and the management did have to foot the bill for the paid day off. Mission accomplished, no harm to workers except that done by the police.

As for whether it's a criminal act to blockade the entrance, I'll admit I'm a little confused about whether this was meant to be a picket or a blockade. Either way, correct police procedure is to order the crowd to disperse, *give them the chance* to disperse, and then arrest anybody who doesn't. You don't open fire on a nonviolent crowd unless you want lawsuits.

cops are not just fellow workers. certainly not comrades. the welts in these pictures should testify to that. any attempt to reach out to cops should emphasize that their role as cops is not a role of a fellow human. if they aspire to human qualities they need to ditch their social role and remember that at their root they have the potential for the basics like compassion, solidarity, and a connectedness b etween people etc. These qualities don't mix with their role as cops period.
by just wondering
What are you saying here, onion, that helping them organize a strike is a bad idea?

Why?
by Witheld, for obvious reasons
"Assaulting an officer is a serious felony. Besides, cops are fellow workers. We shouldn't fight them. We should extend them our comradely solidarity, and help them organize a strike." Help them organize a strike? What kind of BS is that? As a taxpayer, I think they are over-paid, considering they spend most of their time writing speeding tickets and munching donuts. And what happens when there's an emergency? In a nearby city (Akron, Ohio) a woman was killed by her berserk husband when it took the cops half an hour to arrive on a domestic disturbance call. I hardly think they deserve a raise.
by She should have shot him.
When your husband goes beserk on you, shoot his ass dead.

You're better off explaining it to twelve than gettting carried by six.
