A person (sf bb) has sayd :
« The bb is completely vulnerable in block formation - in SF 500 bb were taken in one swoop by cops blocking them in, along with pedestrians and shoppers.
« ANSWER was also trapped as we marched about 7,000 strong in a block toward downtown. Eventually they let us go without arrest - how to arrest 7k after 1k are already in custody? - but it was scary and dangerous! All the shops closed their doors and there was no where to go. Pedestrians and shoppers were crying and everyone was freaked out. We realized that if we started sitting down they could no longer move forward and press us closer and closer.

« Blocks of protestors are hugely vulnerable to cop attack. »

You are so right on with this. The large marches are always completely controlled by the cops if they have enough available at the right place. They decide where it goes, and if it is big enough, that is always to a place where they can stop it and contain it, like a small street or alley.
If you are in a big group, notice when people start running. Cops run to condense the crowd, protestors run to get away from the cops. Keep your eye out on exits. Usually, you can move more quickly than the cops and find an escape route before they close their line.
