San Francisco Nude women for peace on Jan. 18th? Elevating Propaganda Impact

To my knowledge, the picture above reports on the third instance where nude people have made a protest like this. (see url below for story on them)

An idea hit me over the head when looking at this. Why not put together a single simple webpage with the strongest arguments and facts against the Bush war, and have nude people spell that out? There would have to be some planning here, of course, picking a good URL that is short enough to spell out and remember.

Once the site is up, the nude protestors can do their thing, AND THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL PRESS CAN BE INFORMED OF THE ACTION IN ADVANCE. Perhaps this can be done for Washington DC, Jan. 18? San Francisco? Since the San Francisco protest is going to be right in the middle of downtown, it'll be hard to do. But in Washington DC I can imagine throngs of protestors "protecting" the "nude brigade" from cops intent on busting it up somewhere out on the mall.

Just a crazy thought.

I'm sure there will be people that post after me trashing the idea. If so, I say to you, lighten up. Without humor and creativity, we're beyond hope.

Nude Women Protest War Again
Men Also Demonstrate

I suggest all the folks involved repeat their actions on foreign soil and better yet they can double as human shields.

If these things are to continue, may I strongly suggest that when it comes to doing this, the ladies alone say it best.

Nude women you will be most graciously welcome in Iraq.

(1) Senior Unlimited Nudes (SUN) of San Francisco endorses the nude actions for peace, especially those which include all genders and all colors.
(2) SF Indymedia requires a "Title" for comments to be posted. This requirement is inherently sexist, genderist, and classist. The "Title" should be made OPTIONAL.
by Auntie T.B. LIBERTY
Oooooops! Section (1) of my comment is accurate.
However, in section (2), I misunderstood the meaning of "Title"-- I thought it meant a person's title (Dr. Smith, Ms. Jones, Mr. Adam). Doh. Of course now I realize it means a title of the comment, article, etc.

It is mainly the women, the sisters, mothers and grandmothers who are invovled in this form of protest but there is no reason why sons, brothers, fathers and grandfathers should not particapate.

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. .. John Wesley

Ain't nuthing wrong with naked women! I recommend all women walk around naked all the time! For "peace" or whatever reason. Hell, don't make no difference to me. Take it all off baby!!

The butterflies will flutter naked in San Francisco on the 18th of January for the Stop the War Rally. Donna Sheehan, the event organizer, suggests we should wear our wings only. http://www.sfheart.com/naked_for_peace.html

There's no connection between nakedness and the kind of peace you're talking about. I suspect that what you seek is "piece". Even "peas" makes more sense.

Do all you can........ad nauseum.
Can't you can it with that.

UK 'rejects' lone action against Iraq

"Despite cold weather, a group of 30 peace campaigners went naked in East Sussex for their latest protest against any military action."

So is there really going to be a nude protest in Washington? I would like to join in, if anyone knows the time and place for the rendez-nude. Any definite plans for it? I plan to be there on J18, nude or clothed, either way. It's gonna be a terrific rally, shaping up to be even bigger than the huge O26 march. Peace to all our fellow peaceniks in SF!

See, I happen to take the side of beating the crud out of Saddam, ben Laden, and the their whole hee-haw gang. I am no war-monger, I just happen to look at it differently than the opposing faction, but I'll listen seriously to the anti-war viewpoint.

I understand the marching peace protest, and I will listen. But I'm here to tell you, that you lose it with me, and I am sure many like-minded others, when you bring in the clowns and balloons, dogs and ponies, take off your clothes, and make it some sort of mardi-gras party nonsense out of it. Bring in a little booze and vandalism, maybe? Are you serious, or not? Costumes and nudity may well make a lot of points on a lot of issues, but not something as important as to war or not to war. This is a serious question. I'll listen, but present your case in a manner that does the dignity to your position that it deserves. You who oppose the war already have each other in your camp. It is your opposition and the fence-sitters you are trying to sway, isn't it? (Otherwise, who is it you are trying to reach?) Therefore, you should care about making a serious presentation of your stand, and cut out all the theatrics that detract from getting your message across.

Each of us finds an expression which speaks most eloquently how we feel.

I don't see a direct connection between nudity and peace, but let's explore it for a moment.

1) could nude people wage war? no

2) when you think of nude people, do violent images come to mind? No. (Well they don't for me, but I suppose there are some who are so repressed and frustrated, but for the majority I would argue no)

3) what images come to mind as associated with nudity? Beauty, life, love, making love, nature, freedom, joy, birth, honesty, vulnerability (there are more, but you get the idea). And all these images are fairly antithetical to the spirit of war.

4) when the mainstream media ignores our protests, trivializes our messages, and generally pretends we don't exist, trying new approaches is a welcome relief. So they do it for the giggle factor. When they see 80 naked women spelling out "PEACE" the world gets our message.

I may be too hung up to parade down market street in my altogether, but I salute those who do and I know deep down we are kindred spirits working toward peace.

Thanks.

by just wondering
Will the bloc of naked marchers breakaway,

or stay in Civic Center?

The fashionable demonstrator wore Converse high tops, loose jeans, a short leather jacket, a motorcycle helmet, a gas mask and a pair of Moe and Joe work gloves, for picking up tear gas canisters and throwing them back without getting burned hands. Smart ones wore a canteen on their belt. It’s thirsty work.
