Several Protesters Arrested At Chevron HQ

About 100 protesters gathered at the Montgomery BART station at 7AM November 18th 2002 to protest against the US war against the Iraqi people. Several people locked down in front of the main entrance of Chevron-Texaco's headquarters and red paint was spilled on the walkway so that anyone trying to get in would track "blood" into the building. The woman who poured the blood was arrested along with those supporting the people who were locked down. Other protesters locked down in the back of the building.

I had to leave before the arrests of those who locked down could occur...

What came of the other lockdowns that were planned?

7:00 pm Tuesday

I spoke with Judy Haney, who is waiting with some others at the SF County Sherriff's Department for the release of Mary Bull.
As of mid-afternoon, Mary had been granted bail to be released on OR (own recognizance), but since then another hurdle has been thrown up. As the explanation goes, they are currently holding her in a psychiatric cell (the "rubber room"), and a psychiatric evaluation needs to be done before she can be released, adding another six or so hours to her incarceration. The sense of those trying to achieve her release is that other hurdles may yet be thrown up in order to prolong the ordeal as long as possible through administrative stalling tactics.

This is an outrage. To be charged with two felony counts is illegitimate in the first place, but to be refused release even when bail is provided is breach of due process and cruel and unusual punishment. Mary's attorney was completely unprepared for this bait and switch tactic.

If you know the evening contact numbers of any SF supervisors or other public officials that might have some influence over this vindictive process, you are encouraged to use them. Demand the immediate release of Mary Bull.

The latest on Mary Bull is that the OR officer has certified her for release. According to current appearances she should be out between 9:00 and 11:00 pm this evening.

Correction to the previous comment by me: bail was NOT posted, and Mary is being released on own recognizance.

Good news! :

Mary Bull is out of jail, as of about 9:00 this evening. She's in good spirits, and is animatedly questioning people about the parts of the action she missed (she was taken away from the scene and put in a van). She has not slept, and plans to sue for the mistreatment she received while locked up.

When you introduce destruction of property to your protest you relinquish your claim of peace.

Umm. No, that's actually NOTHING like the previous post. You might want to brush up on logic.

Funny how these protesters don't give a shit about the tens of thousands of Iraqis being tortured and killed by their own dictator. These "part-time activists" also do not concern themselves with the crushing fist of ANY of the African butcher-states: Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Zaire, Congo, South Africa, Swaziland, Ethopia, Etreria, Ivory Coast, or Algeria.

To them, the only evil in the world is self-defense. Actually, initating force upon someone is a perfectly acceptable form of political expression, as seen in the liberal acceptance of: North Korea, Soviet Union, North Vietnam, Cuba, China, Iran, and every other pesthole that has routinely tortured its victims while the hippie liberal cheered them on.

"of the African butcher-states...South Africa"

So you think things were better under aparthied?

While the right wing may seem dangerous they are too crazy to ever get any real following...

The ANC is now pretty Capitalist but this crazy is complaining that its now a butcher state since it doesnt have white rule?

No. South Africa continues to suffer from brutality as it did under apartheid. It is still a racist regime, but the leadership and colour has changed.

He made no such comment, learn to read before putting foot into mouth. The point is that activists actually SUPPORT violence as long as it is anti-American.
