Grandmas for Peace Busted at Army Recruiter Station

by Viet War Generation
The greatest gift we can bequeath to the youth is world peace, and three senior citizens, all women, were arrested trying to do just that at the Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Bellingham, Washington on November 12, 2002, the day after Veterans’ Day.
The greatest gift we can bequeath to the youth is world peace, and three senior citizens, all women, were arrested trying to do just that at the Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Bellingham, Washington on November 12, 2002, the day after Veterans’ Day.

They were arrested for misdemeanor trespassing after blocking the entrance to the recruiting station for two hours and refusing to let anyone enter. The three women, Polly Knox, 68; Margie White, 72; and Mary Murphy, 65, were handing out leaflets protesting the use of depleted uranium in US weapons.

With the increased recruitment of high school students and perhaps a draft, we are going to see a lot more antiwar actions. All of the adult population over age 50 can be considered veterans of the peace movements of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and we know that we must do whatever we can to stop war. Since we no longer have to think about careers or raising families, working for peace is primary.

This is a great beginning.
