On Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 12 noon, the All People's Coalition to Stop US Terror and Occupation with the Barrio Defense Committee and other organizations are holding a press conference with a 1pm rally at the Mexican Consulate at 532 Folsom Street in San Francisco to expose the Mexican government's complicity with the brutality and genocide committed against la Raza. Almost half of the prison
population in California and Texas are Mexican. In California, most of the prisoners in the torture programs known as Security Housing Units (SHU) or as "control units" are African and Mexican.
States Quetzaoceloacuia of the Barrio Defense Committee and the All People's Coalition, "Why has the Mexican government remained silent? Why are they not protesting before the world tribunals on the torture
units used against la Raza? It is shameful that the Vincente Fox government has sided with Bush's plans to bomb the people of Iraq!"
Continues Quetzaoceloacuia, "The answer is that the Mexican government has always sided with the US government's genocidal policies. On Oct. 2nd, 1968, the then Pres. Diaz Ordaz ordered the murder of over 400 mostly youth at the Plaza de Tlatelolco in Mexico
City. They were protesting the acute poverty and lack of social needs, but the Mex. govt. was concerned with red-carpetting Mexico City for the US-run world summer Olympic Games."
After Sept. 11th, Wakenhut Corporation, proposed 400,000 new beds for prisoners. The All People's Coalition to Stop US Terror and Occupation understands that the people in prison are not corporate
criminals, corrupt politicians, druglords or killer cops! In
addition, the people in the Security Housing Units are not killers, or child abusers, but prisoners who have spoken out against the prison brutality.
