ILWU Rally in Oakland
1,000 rallied at the Oakland Federal Building August 12 in support of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
The ILWU says the Pacific Maritime Association is not bargaining in good faith, because they have the Bush administration on their side. If the ILWU strikes, the administration is threatening to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act and impose an 80-day cooling-off period. The administration may also bring in military personnel to operate the ports in case of a strike or slowdown.
