from what i can see a VERY interested crowd. not hostile. very curious. sheesh. and i still have that stupid amerikkkan flag in the back of my trunk. oh well. maybe burn it on september 11th? next july just seems so distant...............

Is all this flag burning meant to show solidarity with Congress??
To attack the flag - which stands for democracy and the protection of civil liberties does seem a fitting representation of what congress has done. But it is sad to see this further desecration.
It may sound cliche but I still love my country while fearing my government. It is individuals here who are the problems. The flag still stands for the same thing it always has.

I was present in San Francisco and I was happy to see American Flags burn. As an anarchist, I oppose all forms of nationalism, whether you are american or Irish. The American flags stands for greed, murder, and imperialism. Burn em all.

The American flag also stands for equality, freedom, and democracy. All of which I'm fighting for (true, radical democracy, not representative democracy).

I have very mixed feelings about celebrating July 4th in a conventional way, but I don't want to be burning the US flag. In fact, I liked seeing the US flag today because for once it did not seem to be standing for aggressive US military action (as all the flags on the antennas of SUVs did, to me). Today it represented freedom to me. The freedom from capitalist rule that we must win.

Okay, now that I know you are proposing violence against individuals, in this case the wealthy, would you mind telling us what makes a person wealthy?

Is the person who wins $20 million in the California lottery a rich person? Is the person who owns a local business, is worth several million dollars, but is extensively involved in the public community and funds a great many charitable efforts a rich person? How about the 70 year old widow of a farmer who sold his land for development in the 80's before retiring, do we push her off the cliff too?

And whoever said the SF/Berkeley crowd was into peace and non-violence, make love-not war and all that other stuff? Now you want to kill people? Are all of you like this?

As a symbol of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, lack of affordable health care, low pay, lousy working conditions, union busting, along with militarism and genocide, the US flag deserves to be, and should be burned on all possible occassions.
