Take It To The Bridge UPDATE

by detainee
All 34 people have been released including the 11 year old Palestinian girl and her brother. Attorneys are talking to the DA to find out if the charges will be dropped and civil rights attorneys are on hand to file complaints.
Upcoming Actions/Meetings:
Thursday, May 30th, Noon Press Conference, 455 Eighth
St., San Francisco with the Council of American
Islamic Affairs and other groups.

Saturday, June 1st, Gathering at the Lake Merritt
Columns near Grand Ave and Lakeshore in Oakland,
3-5pm.

Monday, June 3rd, All Peeps Meeting 7pm at the
Fellowship Hall, 390-27th St., Oakland.

From the All People's Coalition to Stop US Terror and Occupation, we want to express our profound appreciation to all the people who participated in this fantastic mobilization. Not only did we send a message of opposition to US policy to the world, we also let the world know that we are serious and courageous when it comes to challenging the cold, repressive US war machine that is wrecking havoc on the peoples of the world and is trying to stop people from speaking out against it.

Most moving were the people who took the stand and got arrested, particularly the young people, some of whom were thrust into events beyond their control and knowledge. The GG bridge authorities and National Park Service clearly set us up for a confrontation and despite their attempts to smear us and blame us for stopping the traffic, we came out the winners in almost every report on the news because we exposed their brutality and our bravery. Please send your court appearance info to allpeepsco [at] yahoo.com so it can be made public and people can attend your court date with you.

Currently everyone has been released from jail. Many people are facing court dates even this week. We are organizing a press conference along with Arab and Muslim organizations and civil rights attorneys and anyone else who wants to join us for Thursday at noon at the office of the California Highway Patrol, 455 Eighth St.in San Francisco.

We have a great campaign ahead of us to charge the CHP with police brutality and unnecessary force. We have to turn around the charges of our people blocking the sidewalk and charge the CHP with blocking the sidewalk. Most importantly, we have to expose the CHP's attack on the Palestinian family by their brutalization of a child and ridiculous arrest of Sophia's brother for "child endangerment." There are charges that the CHP illegally detained two Palestinian men including Jess Ghannam, a leader in this coalition for waving the Palestinian flag on the bridge. As everyone knows, the US flag is flown freely every day from the same bridge.

Everyone is invited to attend the press conference on Thursday. We look forward to the Saturday summation of our mobilization and to talk about the strengths, weaknesses and how we might move forward. We will gather at the Lake Merritt columns at 3pm on this Saturday, June 1st and have a meeting on Monday, June 3rd at 7pm at 390-27th St at the Fellowship Hall.

Looking forward to building our next mobilization, deepening this struggle and building this anti-war movement.

IT TAKES A SPECIAL SORT OF COWARD TO USE AN 11 YEAR OLD TO MAKE A POLITICAL POINT. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH EITHER SIDE IN THE MIDEAST SITUATION BUT IF THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CERTAIN FACTIONS THINK IS A VIABLE TACTIC THEN I HAVE LOST RESPECT FOR THEIR POSITION.

DUE TO THE CULTURAL COMPLEXITIES, A MALE OLDER BROTHER BRINGING A YOUNG FEMALE SIBLING TO SUCH AN EVENT IS AKIN TO KIDNAPPING. DO YOU THINK SHE HAS A CHOICE IN THIS MATTER? EVEN IF SHE DOES, IT'S STILL CHILD ABUSE! SHAME!!!!!

THIS IS THE SORT OF ACTIONS THAT LOOSE SUPPORT.

Why do you think an 11-year-old should be kept away from a protest? With so many people in this country not interested at all in politics, why would you deny this 11 year old the civics lesson, or do you think that involvement in politics should simply be limited to putting a check on a piece of paper every couple of years?

Much more important questions regarding this incident are why was this 11-year-old charged with a felony(!), even if she did what was alledged, and why was her brother charged with felony child endangerment? Do you believe that anyone who takes their child to a protest for whatever reason (perhaps they couldn't afford or find daycare, or perhaps they wanted to share the experience with their child) should be seperated from that child and placed in prison?? Surely you don't believe this!

Clarify your position.
by Shouting is rude.
What's the matter, didn't your momma teach you any manners?

I have a younger sister as well. She is allowed to do whatever she wants in a free country. She has gone to protests. The expectation was not broken by the protesters, it was broken by the violent police. You are supposed to be able to have protests in this country, but certain ass-kissing elements who have their lips permanently planted on George Bush's wrinkly white ass want to blame everyone except the piece of shit police that were out there that day. These cops and these people need to go join the Taliban, you act more like them than you ever act like Americans. Get the fuck out.

Where you there to see what happened? If not, then you are wasting your time and everyone else's by saying things that are based on nothing other than reactionary crap. If you were at the GG then you are lying because no one "used" an 11 year old. In fact,, the 11 year old brought her brotehr to the protest. And since when is it not okay for anyone, regardless of their age to speak their mind? Thinking that that is not okay IS child abuse.

Ann 11-yr-old coming to a protest to participate is akin to a KKK member bring his kid(s) to a cross-burning. At a young age they are just doing what their parents are doing or what their perer group is doing just to be a part of the crowd. An 11-yr-old doesn't have the mental capacity to fully understand the implications of her actions, that's why we have laws for minors and laws for adults. Even in college your first 2 years are spent taking the basics. Until one becomes an adult and has the capability to determine for themselves what they believe, why they believe it, and the consequences of disobeying the law if they chose to committ a crime while protesting should they permitted to take on that responsibility. If she wanted to go with an adult to observe the protest, that would be a good civics lesson. To participate at age 11 is different, the same as an 11 yr old donning a hood and lighting a cross.

I have known people who were very politically active at 11. At around that age, for example, Noam Chomsky was already reading and writing about the Spanish Revolution.
by drol
This girl is no Noam Chomsky. She's probably willing to BLOW Noam, and I'm sure he'd accept, the little horny twinkie he is. But she's no Noam. Noam's an exception in that he decided to be an idiot at an early age, whereas most anarchists, socialists, communists, leftists, etc... are indoctrinated in it or because of a brain deficiency choose to actually believe the shit people like Noam produce. For those who follow the above mentioned doctrines, I don't expect you to understand. You couldn't if you wanted to.
