Protesters Take To The Street On May Day
Several hundred anarchist took to the street of Berkeley to celebrate May Day eve. While the protest was peaceful and orderly Berkeley police were out in force. At least Three arrests occured.
May Day has always been a day of protest for working people around the globe. To celebrate people took to the street in Berkeley, carry signs, playing music and even setting up a maypole in the middle of an intersection.
While protesters were peaceful and numbered only several hundred, Berkeley police showed up massive force. When the maypole was set up in an intersection three roads were completely blocked by police in riot gear and several undercover cops were seen in the crowd disguised (but not very well) as anarchist kids (including bandanas over their faces). These agent provocateurs were clearly noticeable by their constant talking into their shirts and their disappearance immediately after arrests occurred.
After the march started moving from the intersection where the maypole was set up. A cameraman and two others were arrested for no clear reason. When the jail was contacted the charges were all listed as "resisting arrest" with no charges given for the arrests in the first place. As can be seen from a few photos (and hopefully some video) there was no noticeable resisting of arrest and the arrests were designed solely as a form of police harassment.
