Mayday Critical Mass Photos
More photos of the Mayday Mass!!!
Here's a second photo of bicyclists at the demo against racist clothing. Bike lifts, fists in the air, and a lot of joy as 1,000 bicyclists rolled through and stopped in solidarity.
(Note, Critical Mass has no leaders and no stated platform, but is a spontaneous event which can take many forms and is a space for free expression. Not all who participated in the mass necessarily knew about or even supported the demonstration, but many clearly did).

Without 1,000 bikes surrounding the entrance, the Mayday celebrants were eventually chased down by a small police force. Bravo brave bicycling souls!
A young woman was the first to be stopped when the police arrived. Others had already well disappeared over the crest onto the sundrenched vistafull roadway above.
These were probably the last of the riders -- at least those that returned -- others may have kept going and gotten off at another entrance. It's too early to be absolutely sure no one was cited or arrested.
cop cars came through at incredible speed, passing very closely by bicyclists. All this dangerous behavior to prevent something beautiful from happening!
While this image does not clearly show the glory of a good O-turn, it gives some idea at least. This was the first of the evening, and finished quickly wihtout major incident or motorist frustration. Ironically, a "240 horsies" dispicable billboard showcasing a stupid car was seen high overhead the 240 real live human horsies on their steel steeds, swirling towards cyclesalvation. Oh yeah! It's late at night people.
Dig it, we lost one velorutionary to the 5-0 at Van Ness and Market. See the story for details in the first posting, here: http://www.indybay.org/news/2002/04/125136.php

Thanks for the pix. It's time to liberate those freeways and Bike the Bridge!
From a cyclist in Toronto, Canada, you put a smile on my face and made me happy to see the kind of tactics that we can adopt here in Toronto. Solidarity to you all, and thanks from cyclists of the world.
