Arise... is a monthly open mic joint for conscious hip hop, spoken word/poetry
in Oakland, created due to the noticeable shortage of venues for conscious,
independent hip hop open mic in the East Bay area. We strive to provide a
friendly, positive space and environment to help build a strong revolutionary
anti-authoritarian culture. We advocate anti-corporate, do-it-yourself
principles and open participation as well as actively opposing sexism,
homophobia, racism and all forms of oppressive behaviors wherever they exist.

color involved in anti-authoritarian politics. We strive to articulate a vision
of a free, equal, and cooperative society and ways of achieving that vision
which resonate in our diverse communities. As anti-authoritarians with personal
experiences of subordination, we insist on a politics of revolutionary equality
for ourselves and our communities.
May Day: Anti-capitalist Convergence & Autonomous Festivals of Resistance is a
week-long series of direct actions, demonstrations, marches and celebrations to
oppose global capitalism and all forms of oppression. A variety of events will
take place in the San Francisco Bay Area from April 26th to May 1st. The
convergence continues the centuries-old tradition of May Day as a time of
celebration of the Earth and human creativity. May Day has been an anarchist
