TACO BELL TRUTH TOUR!!!!

March 1-17, 2002

(VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED, SCROLL DOWN TO BOTTOM OF EMAIL)

WITH

RISE UP 2002 IN LA on March 10,2002

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers needs your help to make Taco Bell a part of the solution in Florida's farmworkers' fight for dialogue and a fair wage

By contracting for cheap tomatoes grown and picked by farmworkers paid sub-poverty wages in Florida, Taco Bell contributes significantly to the continued misery of farmworkers and their families. We believe that the large corporations that buy Florida tomatoes must step up to their responsibility by demanding, and obtaining, changes in the shameful pay and working conditions suffered by the men and women who pick their tomatoes.

momentum and we need your help!

7)OUTREACH: Perhaps the highlight of the meeting, and
something all of you may not be aware of, was that
when I arrived home after the meeting, I got the
calculator out and added up the commitments you all
gave me. I didn't stretch ANY of the commitment
numbers (!) and this is what the calculator read:
820. Wow! -- I had no idea when we were going around
the circle that the numbers would add up to this.
What's very encouraging and exciting about this number
is that it came from the 25 or so of you who were able
to attend the meeting, and didn't include "outside"
(people coming in from around the country), union,
faith community, community-at-large, legal observers,
or the bulk of our Orange County commitments. Great
work! And now, with two full weeks to go, we ask that
ALL OF YOU work DAILY at reaching out to new
communities/organizations, etc. Invite your
neighbors! Ask churches and community organizations
to send 1-2 representatives! (More, if possible, of
course.)

COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS:
1. Our actions are intended to highlight and to show our support for the
Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) We believe that the large corporations
that buy Florida tomatoes must step up to their responsibility by demanding,
and obtaining, changes in the shameful pay and working conditions suffered
by the men and women who pick their tomatoes. Our actions are not to disrupt
the lives of the community of Los Angeles and Irvine. We will respect the
people who live in Los Angeles and Irvine, and their personal property.

2. We will not initiate violence towards or harm any living being or
property.

3. Our words and actions will respect all ethnic groups, women, and the
queer community.

4. We will not carry weapons or illegal substances.

5. We are in solidarity with each other and will help others during and
after the action. We will ! respect others actions, speak only for ourselves,
and not disrespect others when speaking to the media or the police.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU WANT TO BE TABLE, SPONSER, OR JUST PARTICIPATE:

1. Contact tbtruthtour [at] aol.com or check out the CIW web site at http://www.ciw-online.org for all the latest details on logistics and plans as they become available. You can register to participate at tbtruthtour [at] aol.com.

2. Suggest a workshop or panel discussion. The agenda for the Sunday workshops remains very much open, and participants are invited to help facilitate workshops and suggest possible themes for discussion.

3. Bring your organization’s materials, set up a table, and share your struggle with activists from across the country!

4. Become a co-sponsor of RISE UP 2002! For all of the above, contact tbtruthtour [at] aol.com for more details.

Please little darlins.

There are real issues out there....

this isn't one of them

If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting!

bugs,

if you define "real issues" as ones that pertain to your life in particular, then this may not be a real issue, but it certainly is a real issue to the thousands of people who harvest our food for us. I feel it should also be a real issue to all of us because without farmworkers to harvest our food, we wouldn't be eating it!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
