This whole thing is fantasy. The guy didnt get arrested for having any important news for us, all he does is steal information from other peoples websites and puts it on his. He was arrested for defacing government websites, no excuse for that.....thats IF he got arrested and isnt more exagerrated lies.

I don't think that asking for people not to spread rumors will work, since most people who do spread rumors believe them to be true.

Open truth, like you just did, is the best way to stop rumors. The lawyers may not want you to talk to Indymedia, but then expect the rumor mill to continue, regardless of appeals, as shown by the above poster who already swore at you.

Naturally no one can talk about the possibility of him hacking websites - he could go to jail - but then one shouldn't just say he was taken because 'his website worked' - that only encourages people to respond with the wrong info and basically freak out.

Just put truth that can be out there, out there, and dispel rumors when you can. Not much more you can do.

But boy is he smart for his age to be able to do all that - maybe the gov't will ask him to join . . .

Obviously, everyone has freedom of speech to discuss the situation. Just consider the effects of your speculation carefully first. If you don't know the facts, it's not wise to speculate and assume. Rather, work with what you know.

What I know is, not much. I do know that we all have the right to free speech and assembly. That includes writing things that advocate the overthrow of the government. So, I'll say now, that the statement made by the FBI agent in NewsBytes is pretty suspect. Maybe the federal agent worded it carefully so he actually didn't say what I thought he said :-)

I know that freedom of speech includes bomb making instructions. The PATRIOT act supposedly restricts that aspect of our rights, but, that law has not been tested.

Just for reference, I looked up, on the DOJ website, an article about bomb recipes on the internet. In it, they pointed out numerous cases where the information is protected speech. In fact, it's very difficult to restrict this type of speech:

I`m no cop, I just think its about time people stopped getting so carried away about nothing. Dont make this guy out to be some sort of hero, hes not, all he does is copy everyone else`s work...he has no originality. I read several documents on his website that were taken straight from MY WEBSITE, and yet HE is taking all the credit for it. That is what gets to me. The only thing that makes him different is he is a vandal, and so got everyting he deserved.
And dont think that anyone actually gives a fuck about him in the real world, they have more important people to deal with, and anyway, if I was him, I`d keep a low profile.

Oh by the way....the thing that qualifies me to judge whether is a hero...I have been around a lot longer, I have spent time in the military, and I have seen this guys type before. The ones who shout the loudest are always the cowards. If he had any sense, he would try to be anonymous, and insignificant.....instead he is drawing attention to himself by telling other people to do things he wouldnt dare do himself.
And to be honest, I`m sick of hearing about him. Its not as though hes gonna bring the world to its knees.

Your website? URL, please. Do feel free to provide proof of reuse of content, along with a justification of why this particular reuse of content is any worse than the myriad of reuses all over the internet (including from corporate media sources, who almost always get away with it). Extra points for explaining why copyright law protects the indiviual, especially if i don' t break out in gales of laughter while you're doing it.

Any wannabe hacker can do that, but the people who have enough time on their hands to learn how to crack other peoples computers arent dangerous in real life. I use to take steps to make myself anonymous, but I gave up when I realised how pointless it was. You can always be traced somehow, so theres no use even trying not to be.

The site may have been taken down to its content only, but Sherman drew attention to himself by cracking. It was inevitable.
Its not like freedom of speech, or freedom in general, ever actually existed, they just told you it did, and most of you believed them. America has always been a dictatorship, just like most other "democratic" governments.

And yes, I admit resistance is futile, we`ve left it hundreds of years too late. The only way out of this mess now is death, or soon it will be hell on earth.
If you are still alive in 10 years time, you will curse the day you ever tried to survive.
There are a few nuisances and people who cause the government inconvenience, but they`re not really considered a serious threat. But they think we might as well stop them now, its no effort or trouble on our half.

I`m not threating anyone, I`m not part of any organisation, I`m just an individual too now. I have cut myself completely from anything to do with that world, just in time too.
I`m just asking you to be more careful, thats all, because once they`ve got you, theres no escape, and I dont think anyone deserves that.
And I hate the idea of secret police, but what can you do? Nothing. All this was well planned years before any of us was born, they know what they are doing, they have done it many times before, and they were successful everytime. I`m not stupid or a coward, I`m lazy but that doesnt matter, there is nothing any of us can do. Anyway, everyone is a coward. The people who will be putting us in camps, have the power to extend our life, and they have methods of torure you`ve never heard of. They have drugs which cause intense pain that never wears off, or they can mess with your head so bad that you are constantly trapped in a nightmare. All that on top of having my teeth pulled out, heart cut out, eyes taken out, and then being castrated, all without anaesthetic worries me a bit, and I`m not ashamed to admit it. They have ways of finding out your deepest personal fears....say you had arachnophobia, they would lock you in a tiny cell full of spiders for the rest of your life. Anyone who says they could handle people doing things like that to them is a liar.

I`m not pleased about this site being taken down, but this sort of thing happens all the time, people are used to it and its not unique. I think you should be able to put anything on a website, even if it is actually illegal, because I think what people look at in their own time is their business. But you have to think, one of the secret reasons for inventing the internet, was to identify and keep in line all the "troublemakers"....so people have always been censored, but theres not much you can do.

Everthing is inside nature, but there are still things we don`t understand and cant control. There a lot of things we still dont know even exist. And there is a lot to be scared of out there, things which arent killed by guns and bombs. Your government has being dabbling in things it doesnt understand, and now we all have to pay the price.

As far as the government restricting public access to information is concerned, I used to be outraged, but I now realise it has always been like this, and I cant change that....not in the short amount of time we have left anyway. None of us really understand who we are dealing with here...we think we`ve got an idea, but whatever it is, it is 10 times worse than you think. Even the top person of the government doesnt really understand who he is taking his orders from. He is being deceived and cheated just as much as us.

I am actually on your side, but I know there is no point fighting or trying to survive....you wouldn`t want to anyway, even if we escaped them, they`d be nothing left, and they would get you later on....there really is no other way out.

anonymous, I don't know nessie at all, though we did have a brief encounter a few days ago. I can only relay what I have discovered about him from the posts he has written.

I have perceived nessie as being someone who is focused on his mark, like an archer. At 53, you don't just fall out of the bed and wake up, and I have a feeling he's been at this for some time. I'm of the strong impression that fear of those who would want to "shut him up" is not something he is wringing his hands over. Most people who wish to be successful at anything they do may watch closely their competition and advisories, but they have a game plan in mind and are not prone to alterations, especially if they believe they have a good plan. I say that to say this; nessie has a game plan, he's been perfecting it for years, and he's doing what he believes in. He understands the dangers, but to him, the fight is worth the risk. Very entrepreneurial (sorry nes, couldn't help it).

Anonymous, if your true desire is to warn people to be careful, I would consider that noble on your part. Certainly in all we do, taking proper precautions is advisable. This guy Sherman who ran the RTF website sounds like a young man who was passionate about what he believed, but for either poor judgement, intentional illegal activity on his part, or intentional illegal action on behalf of the government, he is shutdown. 18 year olds often feel more grown up than they are. Looking back, I know I did. And, if he did plagiarize material from your website and post it as his own, I can understand your anger with him. People will make heroes of whom they will, deserved or not.

For both of you: Typically I've found that when things like this happen, it springs more Shermans. Sort of like your parents telling you the evil of cigarettes, the first thing you wanna do is go out and buy a pack of smokes. So now, if others go out and do the same thing, and they take the risk and get nailed, that's their problem. But, maybe others can learn from their mistakes, and the movement goes forward. You're both on agreement that the arms of government censorship of, in this case, websites, must be eliminated. That seems to be the foundation on which to build.

I am however interested in one thing that I would like to receive information. This talk of concentration camps, where does this come from? I'm 40, I consider myself to be fairly conservative, and I fully understand that nothing is beyond the realm of possibility. But I hear this talk from both the left and right side of the political isle. The right thinks the left will take over and indoctrinate people through reeducation programs, the left thinks they’re going to concentration camps. While I believe there are people in both camps who would like to see these things befall their political enemies, I'm not so sure the vast majority in the middle would put up with it, and lest not in the current political climate.

I enjoy reading the posts on this site. It's interesting to know how those who think politically different from me react to various happenings. Though we may not always agree, I appreciated you doing what you believe to be in the best interest of all citizens. When it comes right down to it, most of us are just average Joe's and Jane’s wanting to enjoy the short time we have here on earth, make friends along the way, leave things better than when we found them, and live in peace with mankind.
