Dubia/Machiavelli- Mein Fuhrer/Prince?

by anarchistintraining
There is a resurgence of interest in Niccolo Machiavelli, particularly his book entitled "The Prince". He appears to have become one of the darlings of the far-right. This book instead should be viewed as compelling evidence of the nation-state(today the corporate-nation-state) as a patently evil institution.
There is a resurgence of interest in Niccolo Machiavelli, particularly his book "The Prince". He appears to have become one of the darlings of the far-right because of his apparent advocacy of the status quo(deal with people as they are, not as they should be) and a philosophy where the " ends justify the means" as the state and its ruler(s) are ends to themselves-for better or worse matters not-morality does not count, only the perpetuation of the power of the state and its leader(s). This book instead should be viewed as compelling evidence of the nation-state(today the corporate-nation-state) as a patently evil institution.
Regardless of what Niccolo Machiavelli's intentions were in writing "The Prince"( we've been told many times what the road to hell is paved with), the information contained within goes a long way in explaining why he is celebrated by the far right, and in explaining the current behavior of Dubia Bush and the rest of the U.S. government, especially since 9/11/01. The far-right will have us believe that Machiavelli was"misunderstood", as shown on the one-world-gov. conspiracy page linked below. However, it appears they, along with Dubia, Inc. understand his message very well. Actions speak louder than words.

The greatest danger posed by such "logic" as that found in "The Prince" for today's age of weapons of mass destruction is its message of the State Uber Alles by ANY means necessary. This is a sure formula for humankind's extinction, if not the extinguishment of all life on this planet. Dubia, Inc. may have found it a convienient excuse for America's arrogance and contempt for the rest of the world:morals don't matter-power does.

"The Prince" certainly does a lot to show us what makes right-wingers tick. It also goes to show why people worldwide must UNITE to form a new society that is just, fair to all and socially/economically/environmentally responsible-we MUST

SMASH THE STATE!
by grizzled old college prof
where any idiot (like DUBYA not DUBIA) can post some stupid-ass essay on a book that it's obvious they've never read and then claim it "proves" their particular brand of leftism, whether it be anarchism, communism, some other brand of authoritarian socialism, or just plain good old fashioned contrarianism. Please tell me, Mr. poster, if you have any conception of the nature of the European political climate and the philosophical debate at the time Machiavelli wrote "The Prince"? I doubt you do. Just keep chanting "them bad, us good" and everything will be fine...

gotta agree w/ grizzled old professor here.

read the Prince, then talk. the book is quoted out of context quite a bit.

machievalli's big belief is that the state needs to be defended b/c it is the highest form of political organization that best guarantees the rights of its citizens. the rest of the treatise flows from there and outlines how a prince should fulfill his duties to his citizens.
