Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah offer truce, Sharon says "No"
Occupied Jerusalem - The main Palestinian resistance groups have offered to suspend attacks inside Israel if the Israeli occupation army and paramilitary Jewish terrorists agree in return to stop assassinating Palestinian citizens and end tank and aerial bombardment of Palestinian population centers.
The two main Islamic organizations Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, as well as Fatah, headed by Yasser Arafat, said in a joint leaflet widely circulated in the West Bank and Gaza Strip that their offer was meant to deprive the Israeli government of dividing the Palestinian ranks and undermining national unity.
"We are giving the Zionist enemy a period to stop its assassinations, destruction, murder and bombardment of Palestinian population centers.
In return we will stop our martyrdom and armed attacks within the borders of the occupied land of 1948 during this period which will begin as of midnight December 10 until the end of the month of Ramadan."
The offer was rejected outright by the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon.
A senior Israeli official was quoted as saying that "Israel will continue to fight terrorism no matter what."
The apartheid Israeli regime considers all forms of Palestinian resistance of Israel's colonial occupation of Palestinian land as "terrorism" while calling its own state-sponsored terror against Palestinians "legitimate self-defense."
Observers in Palestine suggest that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, a certified war criminal, is not really interested in reducing the level of violence in Palestine as this would shift attention to the political problems pertaining to the Israeli occupation.
On Sunday, US envoy Anthony Zinni threatened to leave Palestine and return home if progress in security talks between the two sides was not made.
Zinni reportedly made his threat after another meeting between Israeli and PA officials ended without any results.
According to Palestinian sources the Israeli government was refusing to end the military siege of Palestinian towns and villages which observers have pointed out reduced the population centers to "virtual concentration camps."

In their own statement, Hamas acknowledges that this is proposed in order to prevent a crackdown on it by Arafat - something he is obligated to do in any event.

the "honorable intent of hamas"?
get real. pat is right, the truce "offer" meant nothing, only designed to strengthen hamas's position.
if anything it shows how israelis attacks on palestinian terrorists and the assassination of their leaders is actually succeeding.
oh, and murder implies malicious intent. accidental deaths do not count, nor does self-defense. a palestinian "protestor" throwing rocks at an israeli soldier while giving cover to palestiniain gunmen behind him is a combatant, pure and simple
"The offer is for a cessation of suicide bombings for only 1 week, and only in Israel 'proper'."
One week cessation is better than no cessation at all, right? Note also that they have the right to attack within post -67 occupied territory. The gory suicide bombings that has occured, occured inside the -48 borders, against civilians.
"if anything it shows how israelis attacks on palestinian terrorists and the assassination of their leaders is actually succeeding."
As is evident by the recent wave of suicide attacks in revenge for the killing of Hamas leaders...

This is just racist BS. Your refering to the mysterious "gunbattles" that seems to leave only palestinians dead and wounded. Check out the Israels army's web site http://www.idf.il/english/news/nifg.stm.
Six (6) soldiers killed in shootings* (that may or may not be demonstration-related) in over a year of fighting as opposed to hundreds of unarmed protestors killed and thousands wounded. "while giving cover to gunmen" my ass!
Note also the number of soldiers killed from rocks (zero).
During this intifada 16 000 palestinians have been wounded and around 800 have been killed, most of them civilians (some slinging rocks that has yet to kill a single soldier). Compare this with the Israeli figure of 240 dead and 2300 wounded. Doesn't those numbers speak for themselves?

This conflict won't end until Israels occupation and oppression ends. The suicide bombers are relativly new phenomenon in this conflict, the result of decade after decade of occupation and oppression.
*note that the other categories of shootings definitely can't be related to protest.
I don't see the EU having a dialogue with them, nor Jordan or Egypt. Just Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, etc...... Not very nice places, no? Fascist regimes, no? Blatantly racist, no?
