For Mumia: A Thousand in Philadelphia, Hundreds in SF
1000's for mumia
Philadelphia - Over one thousand people gathered on Aug 17 to show support of a retrial for journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal, who has been condemned to death row since 1983. The demonstration took place during the hearing to address a request for a "post-conviction relief hearing," which would allow for a review of evidence contained in a brief submitted by Mumia's new legal team on May 5th of this year. The brief contains the five new affidavits, including that of a man claiming to be the actual killer of Officer Daniel Faulkner. Lawyers and activists warn that if the new hearing is not ordered, Governor Tom Ridge could sign a death warrant for Mumia. Read the latest from the Philly IMC.
