Katherine Harris, Florida Secretary of State says:

i'm so sick of male activists using traditional methods of shaming/silencing powerful women in their critiques. katherine harris is an idiot, but i do not see the point in critiquing her use of makeup or her method of dress. the articles that filled newspapers nationwide about her eyelashes, her alleged affair with jeb bush, and everything else would never have happened to a man in her position. i have higher expectations of activists than i do of the times or the chronicle and i have a right to. if you have a problem with katherine harris, have a problem with her ideas and actions, not with the fact that her appearance meets traditional standards of beauty. you weaken your argument and you weaken the ability of those in your community to take you seriously and feel included in a productive dialouge.
on a similiar note, i was really disheartened to hear medea benjamin (who i respect) comment on the amount of hairspray that dianne feinstein uses during the election coverage. a lot of the people who need to support benjamin, who are being left out of feinstein's agenda, use hairspray. a lot of poor people, a lot of young people, use hairspray. progressives need to look outside the bubbles of their communities and look at who they're leaving out; a lot of the time it is people who should be your allies, but who are too alienated by the nature of your discourse to even communicate with you.

The *joke* here is that BUSH is slang for a womans vagina. And the image is depicting the Secretary of State of Florida (who had a part in G. W. Bush getting elected) says your getting bush no matter what and she is taking off her pants.

See humor usually comes from associations... Taking two un-associated things, or two things that are not normally associated with eachother and finding their association.

PS- I'm a male, dislike ads and anything that depict woman as objects rather than emotional beings, so please don't jump off the deep end and call me sexist.
