A thank you letter for the support following the counter-recruitment demonstration on April 11th.
Dear Supporters of Students Against War,
First of all, thank you for your support following our counter-recruitment demonstration on April 11th. With the barrage of right-wing attacks against our ad-hoc press team, it was encouraging to know that there was nation-wide support for our anti-war efforts.
As part of a larger movement we understand our attempts to stop the war machine cannot be isolated. Our actions only work as part of a unified culture of resistance. Although we appreciate all of the calls and emails we have received in the past weeks, we urge you to dedicate that time taken out of your day to act in your own communities. As the saying goes, “Think globally. Act locally.” The only way we can successfully win the struggle for peace and justice is by creating networks capable of directly confronting a militarized society.
As we are inside of the war machine itself, it is our, as well as your, responsibility as anti-war activists to throw a wrench in the gears. It is not enough merely to talk about ending the war—we must do it. Discussion will not bring an end to the violence being brought onto the Iraqi people by our government, will not bring our troops home, and will not end the profit gain of the wealthy elite at the expense of human life. Our knowledge is fruitless without being coupled with action.
Thank you again for all your support. We hope to ear of your successes in the headlines instead of more news of violence and death from across the globe. May this note find you well and active in resistance.
In Solidarity,
UCSC Students Against War
