by NPR (reposted)
Fresh Air from WHYY, May 18, 2006 · Journalist Nicholas Kristof and Sudan expert John Prendergast talk about the continuing crisis in the Sudanese region of Darfur in Africa.
Kristof recently won the Pulitzer prize for his New York Times commentary on Darfur. Prendergast is special adviser to the president of the International Crisis Group. He has 20 years of experience resolving conflict in Africa, and shaping U.S. foreign policy toward the region.

Prendergast has traveled with celebrities Angelina Jolie and Don Cheadle, with whom he is now co-authoring a book about Darfur.

by did any one go?
I went, and found it deeply disturbing. Why were they attempting to politicize the struggle? Did I interpret it wrongly? A group of us went expecting it to be a discussion of ways of incorporating direct action to publicize the crisis - instead, the human story and human suffering aspect was minimalized and trivialized in the face of the "larger political struggle"

The scheduled speakers were Jess Ghannam and Isma'il Kamal, a Sudanese student from UC Davis and co-founder of the Sudanese American Society. Did anyone else go and leave feeling really unsatisfied? Now I wish I had sent my 10 dollar admission fee direct to the Red Crescent society.
