Grand Jury Indicts Cardenas's Killer

Today we received the verdict of the hearing for the murder of Rudy Cardenas.
I remember when the trial first started on Monday July 19th. I was closed minded about justice being served. As a person of color, I never thought justice was attainable. All of my surrounding community has been victims of the justice system. But I still tried hard to think positive, and managed to be optimistic.
While I walked up the stairs of Superior Court, anxiety was building in my stomach. Everything was pretty quiet as I walked through the courthouse. It wasn't until the elevator door opened on the third floor that I heard voices, not just a few, but a great many.
I stood by the elevator door and observed the crowd. While I was standing I noticed a Sheriff looking my way. I caught him glancing at me and saying something to another officer. I got the feeling he told him to keep an eye on me. After a while the Bailiff opened up the doors to let the crowd in. As everyone took their seats, the bailiff strictly mentioned twice not to make outburst whatever the verdict. If he heard any outburst the judge would end the open hearing in consequence.
The verdict was was brief. Judge Hanson first asked if the jury reached a verdict. Then asked, "Did at least 12 jurors agree to the verdict?" His final question was, "Did the jury properly examine all the evidence?" The jury foreman answered yes to all the questions. With that, Judge Hanson delivered the verdictÉthat the jury had indicted State Agent Michael Walker on second-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter. (Exhale) Which one we will only know once Walker is officially arrested. Finally. Finally.
As we exited the doors of the superior courthouse, the media was ready to jump. Rudy Cardenas's brother kissed the stairs of the courthouse, I think signifying that justice had been served. A large group of family members and supporters got together holding hands and sang a gospel song.
The people of the many victims from these oppressions finally get a dose of justice.
