June 8 Biotech Protests
As many as 2,000 activists converged outside the Moscone Center in San Francisco on Tuesday, June 8, to confront attendees at the BIO 2004 biotechnology conference.
Activists denounced genetically modified food, health care for profit, gene patenting, and big agribusiness.
About a dozen activists from the Green Bloc locked down in the intersection of 4th & Howard outside Moscone Center, which they held for about an hour. After disrupting traffic and educating delegates outside Moscone Center, the group held an impromptu street party, before taking off for more actions elsewhere in the city.
In all, there were about 20 arrests by noon. Activists plan a jail solidarity support rally this evening for protesters who remain in custody.
