9/17SF Protest Of Union Buster Elaine Chao
The Port Workers Solidarity Committee will be protesting the presence of union buster US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. Her lawyers have threatened ILWU members with troops if they go out on strike.
Protest Union Buster Labor Secretary Elaine Chao
Tuesday Sept. 17, 2002 NOON
Fairmont Hotel
California & Mason St.
San Francisco
The Portworkers Solidarity Committee is joining the ILWU, Sweatshop Watch, Chinese For Progressive Action and others to protest the appearance of US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, the Bush administration's notorius union-buster.
Elaine Chao will be in San Francisco to deliver a speech on "Labor Challenges in the Coming Year" for the Commonwealth Club.
Chao has remained silent while the Labor Department gives up its fight for garment workers. She has eliminated ergonomic protections for millions of US workers in order to help her coporate masters. Her lawyers have recently intervened in the ILWU-PMA negotiations to threaten the union with troops and the break-up of the coast wide contract. This direct union-busting move must be opposed by all working people. We encourage anyone who cares about workers rights to join this protest.
Please also attend the next meeting of the

Thursday, October 3rd, 7:00PM
