Maybe you socialist/anarchists should wake up, smell the coffee of freedom, and fight against the War on Drugs rather than fighting the freedom of people to trade with people in other countries.

The Drug War is a REAL threat, unlike globalization, which will take a long time to really get going anyway. The Drug War is taking a toll HERE, IN THE US TODAY, not to mention funding all kinds of terrorists around the world.

Except for a minute percent of the wrongly accused, most criminals who are in jail belong there.

So what if blacks are 6 percent of the population but 36 percent of the prison population. Are we to adopt some kind of quota system saying that the jail can be composed of no more than 6 or so percent black people. Oh, it is your lucky day. You shot someone, but we will have to let you go today since we already have our limit of black people in the jail in the jail.

Wake up. Why spend your time defending criminals of ANY COLOR. You would "bust open the jails" and the criminals you let out would waste no time getting right back to:

- robbing
- raping
- killing
- beating
- dealing
- stealing

Christ you people are stupid. No one wants these criminals released back into their community.

Maybe the numbers do say something. Maybe they say that we need to spend more money on education in poor, black areas. However, they in no way, shape, or form show that the proper solution is to release CONVICTED CRIMINALS of any color.

Hmmn, by the posters reasoning, it seems that inequality is "proven" based on the fact that African Americans make up a small part of the populace but a larger part of the prison population.

Does this mean that caucasians should occupy a majority of the prison population, regardless of the actual crimes committed by both groups?

the gov't's own statistics show that europeanamerican males use illegal drugs at higher rates than african american males. It varies a bit by category of drug. The rate of incarceration, for this relatively close amount of drug use, is vastly disproportionate. There are numerous legal studies that have shown that first time offenders receive vastly different average sentences by race. It is so well documented that there isn't really any controversy about these facts, unless you haven't explored the issue at all.

KN: It has been shown that Blacks use illegal drugs at the same rate as whites, yet get busted at a far higher rate. The sentencing for crack is ridiculously more severe than for powder cocaine -- guess what that means in practise. These examples are just the tip of the iceberg of police/judicial racism. Your sarcastic -- and utterly predictable -- response to this situation amounts to a denial of racism in the US.

In America's class system, at the end of the day, of course, it comes down to money. Toadies like KN never seem to care much about all the so-called "white collar" criminals -- money launderers, big pushers etc -- that go scot free or get only a tap on the wrist.

as i originally posted, get the FUCK off the site, PIGS. if you had the ability to comprehend what you read, and had any inclination to actually research this topic, instead of trying to assail against one fucking graph, you would realize that the racism of the U.S. criminal justice system is mostly derived from official Department of Justice statistics. Fact is, white and black people commit crimes and do drugs at exactly the same rate, but black people are represented in prisons in vast disproportions. Also, color aside, people in prison are 90% from poor backgrounds and poor conditions ... which means to say, people in desperate economic conditions are more likely to commit crimes. Its called a "critique of capitalism," quit running off at the mouth here and go get a fucking book, you sick stupid PIGS.

Why is it that only in poor minority neighborhoods do I have to stop my car because toddlers are playing in the street? It could be that they are high or passed out. I'm sure you'll deny this.
