Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Prize winner and courageous advocate for human rights in Guatemala and elsewhere in Las Americas, will speak at Delta College's Tillie Lewis Theater on October 22 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. She is a survivor of the Reagan administration-engineered genocide of the Mayan people in Guatemala. The genocide occurred under the "scorched earth" policy of the "born again butcher," Jose Efrain Rios Montt. One of the most vicious tyrants in recent Guatemalan history, Rios Montt...

textThe Failure of McPalin Lynch Mob Politics – You Betcha! by David A. Love
In past years, the race card might very well have worked even for this pair of untalented, mediocre individuals. Perhaps it is too early to write their political obituary, although many commentators across the political spectrum have already done so. And the fact that their campaign is fighting for dear life in bright-red Bush country may provide all the proof we need that it is done, time to stick a fork in it. Nevertheless, it appears that McPalin is a casualty of the changing times, changi...

imageUpdate on Hmong Community Garden & Fresno City Council meeting on Tuesday
image001.jpg
by irlandeso
An article was written today in the Fresno Bee stating that some sort of an "agreement" has been reached with gardeners at the Hmong Community Garden. This agreement seems like more of the same thing we have seen before, with the City not fully involving the community and the gardeners, and not even guaranteeing garden plots for all of the gardeners at the Hmong Community Garden....

textStand Up for Dee Allen: Pack the Courtroom November 7 by Kim Rohrbach
On July 30, Black poet, student and activist Lamont (Dee) Allen was arrested by the SFPD and booked on trumped-up misdemeanor charges as a result of his participation in a counter-demonstration against the Minutemen -- a group whose thinly veiled white supremacist agenda should be vehemently opposed by EVERY resident of this so-called progressive city. Many of us love and respect Dee, and know him to be an upstanding and sensitive fellow of rare integrity. Yet, the San Francisco D.A.'s office...

"Their only hope is that the city of Fresno -- not the government, but the people who live here and make up this city -- say, 'This is something worth saving. If you can't save this kind of network, this kind of support, this kind of love, then pretty soon the only thing left to save is concrete.'" - Chukou Thao, executive director of the Hmong American Farmer's Association...

textEnvironmental Justice and Human Rights take on San Francisco's unsustainable developments. by Francisco Da Costa
San Francisco is on the world map now as the City that really knows how to lie and put on a facade that is far from real. For years the City and County of San Francisco has been trying to brag - that it is Green and Sustainable - while all the time innocent folks in the hundreds are dying in the Bayview Hunters Point. Tons of Methane Gas, Mercury, Lead, radiological elements - and other danderous toxic dust keep spewing in the air. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District gives San Franc...

imageBailout the Filipino Veterans Not the Capitalist
2.jpg
by JFAV-San Francisco
Today, we protest the racist attacks against the Filipino World War II Veterans. Again, the fast disappearing Filipino World War II veterans and the seniors were the first victims of the Bush $700 capitalist bailout. We gather today at the federal building in San Francisco. We remember that on 1941, when the Second World War broke out, we have to fight a war that is not of our own making. Filipinos were ordered and conscripted into the United States army and were ordered to fight for the...

Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) fined Lennar $515,000 and there is more to come. Lennar for over four months - with intent bombarded the community - adversely impacting children, elders, and others.
