Canadian Greenpeace whaling activist, Texas Joe Constantine, was dragged overboard into the freezing Antarctic waters after the whaling harpoon was fired over his inflatable and the harpoon rope became entangled in the craft. Constantine spent a few minutes in the water in his survival suit, before his compatriots could manouver their craft to pick him up. The harpoon killed the whale almost instantly after a chase lasting an hour....

He said that if the Australian and New Zealand Government had serious concerns for human safety in regard to confrontations between conservationists and whalers then they should make a proper legal challenge....

Buffalo Field Campaign - Update from the Field - 01/12/06
On Friday(01/06/06) in Gardiner, the National Park Service (NPS) was busy harassing wild buffalo, protecting livestock interests instead of the flora and fauna they are mandated by the American people to protect. Park Rangers came out on horseback, dressed in cowboy finery, just miles from the hunt zone, and forced wild buffalo off of their winter range. Two groups were hazed into the Park and then the rangers picked up another large group that had never even left the Park's boundaries....

Japanese Whaling launches Consumer Boycotts and a Union Blackban
The Nisshin Maru whaling factory ship has stopped and the hunters are out hunting in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Once again Greenpeace activists have put their inflatable zodiacs into the water to try and form a human shield between harpoon and whale. Tensions are higher after the collision of the Nisshin Maru and Arctic Sunrise. Maybe there are things which people on dry land can do as well, such as boycotting Gordon's seafood products, and products of other companies invested in by ...

The Mileage-Per-Gallon Fraud
After buying a hybrid a few months ago, I soon learned that the car was not achieving the projected miles per gallon. I heard from others that all cars fall below the EPA estimated gas mileage, but in my case the numbers were not even close. Fortunately, the current issue of Sierra magazine provides the details behind EPA’s misleading estimates, and the situation is even worse than suspected. How does the auto industry get away with this fraud, and why do legislators stand for it?...

The Slaughter of an Exhausted Whale Calf
The Japanese whaling fleet has recommenced the whale hunt and slaughter after an absence of 11 days. In that time the fleet has fled over 3,000 nautical miles from the far east of the whaling area to the far west. Greenpeace activists again disrupted the whale hunt on 5 January by enabling many whales to escape. Andrew, from the Greenpeace ship, Esperanza, tells the story of one hunt and how the harpoonist needed only one good shot. Eventually an exhausted whale calf was hit by the grenade ti...
