Santa Cruz & Oakland, CALIFORNIA – The City Councils in Santa Cruz and Oakland City both considered an IMPEACHMENT RESOLUTION on June 27, 2017. Both Councils voted to approve and the Resolutions will therefore be forwarded to Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) and Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13). Santa Cruz will also forward their Resolution to CA state legislators: Bill Monning and Mark Stone.

Santa Cruz Indivisible: Impeach Trump Now Action team, 13 PAGES Indivisible, Alameda4Impeachment and other groups and individual citizens called upon Santa Cruz and Oakland City Council Members to support a resolution asking Congress to investigate impeachment of Donald Trump. The Resolution in Santa Cruz was sponsored by Mayor Cynthia Chase and Council Member Chris Krohn. The Resolution in Oakland was co-sponsored by Councilmembers Dan Kalb and Abel Guillen and supported by City Attorney Barbara Parker.

Similar resolutions were recently passed in ten other cities (Richmond, Alameda, Berkeley and Los Angeles, California; Amherst, Brookline, Cambridge, Pelham and Leverett Massachusetts; and Charlotte, Vermont).

"We’re pleased with the outcome of the City Council’s vote," said Santa Cruz Indivisible member, Nancy Guinther. "This resolution takes no money or attention away from the many important issues the Santa Cruz City Council faces. Rather, it sends a strong message from the community to our Congressional delegation that this president needs investigation into his potential violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the U. S. Constitution and other crimes such as obstruction of justice."

"Oakland City Council Members appreciate that they swore an oath to uphold the US Constitution," added local Oakland activist Jim Burgardt. "They ultimately agreed it’s their duty to speak out when violations of our Constitution go unaddressed."

Citizen groups partnered on this effort with the Impeach Donald Trump Now campaign. Impeach Donald Trump Now is a non-partisan national campaign led by Free Speech for People and RootsAction.org [impeachdonaldtrumpnow.org]. The campaign recently delivered a petition to Congress calling for Donald Trump’s impeachment. At this time, more than 1.14 million people have signed this petition.
