Dear friends of LGBTQ liberation,
Easter Sunday 2015 marks the 50th anniversary
of an early LGBTQ march in Manhattan
-- four years BEFORE Stonewall.
Twenty-nine demonstrators marched from lower Broadway,
northward "up Fifth Avenue (where the Easter parade was in full bloom),
and across town to the United Nations..."
Protesting Fidel Castro's anti-gay policy,
the picketers denounced persecution of "homosexuals".
[ please see GAY IS GOOD: The Life and Letters of Gay Rights Pioneer Franklin Kameny; edited by
Michael G. Long [2014]; pages 90-93].
These marchers included persons of various sexual orientations,
religions, and political views.
They came from the Mattachine Society of NY,
the Homosexual League of NY,
the New York City League for Sexual Freedom,
and the Demophile Center of Boston.
