Hundreds of thousands of Korean workers are striking Feb. 25 to defend the basic right to organize unions and their right to strike.

In December, members of the Korean Railway Workers Union organized a 22-day strike against KORAIL moves to privatize the state-owned company. The rightwing government of Park Geun-hye sent a battalion of some 5,000 police to surround headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and
arrested 138 unionists. Rail workers were fired and their union fined millions of dollars with charges of “obstructing business”. The 5,000,000 member International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) is supporting the actions of the Korean workers. We, and workers around the world, stand in solidarity
with the Korean workers.

We demand:

1) Free all jailed Korean workers
2) No reprisals, rehire fired workers,
drop the charges and the fines
3) Stop government repression against
unions
4) Defend the right to strike and stop
privatization
