The Earth Day Marin Festival is a fun, free event for all ages with the goal of galvanizing a greater level of community action on environmental issues. The event includes music, speakers, workshops, a teen-led TeenSpot & stage, a kid zone (including some bilingual activities in English/Spanish) and the leading organizations, businesses, agencies, artisans/craftspeople, farmers/food producers and others moving us towards our a healthy environmental and positive future. The event celebrates the anniversaries of Marin's Land management agencies - Marin County Parks, Marin Municipal Water District, Point Reyes National Seashore, California State Parks and Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and features iconic world music act Zulu Spear and an Earth Day All Star Band featuring musicians seen with Jefferson Starship. Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver, Bonnie Raitt Band and more, Dr. Scott Sampson of hit PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train, delicious lunch by Good Earth Natural Foods including organic and grass-fed tacos and tamales and organic, vegan, raw delights from Lydia's Lovin' Foods, a Congressional Candidates' Forum on the Environment with debate services provided by the League of Women Voters, the Champion Chef Local Foods Challenge sponsored by Whole Foods – Francesco Torre of FISH competing for Sea Stewards vs. Massimo Covello formerly of Piazza D’Angelo competing for Marin Organic, an eco-fashion show by DhanaEcoKids, Newsweek lauded "Green Business Icon" Hunter Lovins, coauthor of Natural Capitalism & Climate Capitalism, a Green Careers Panel presented by the Dominican University Green MBA Program, An Urban Homesteading Design Lab with Rachel Kaplan coauthor of Urban Homesteading, Pacific Sun-Circle Bank Hero of Marin & Shark Champion David McGuire of Sea Stewards, Andrew Mellen bestselling author of Unstuff Your Life, additional workshops and panels, Eco-Puppet Shows by Next Generation, stellar environmental education band Let's Go Green, 'The Mick Jagger of the Milk and Cookies set' Tim Cain, and lots, lots more. The Earth Day Marin Festival works in conjunction with MyEarthDayMarin.org to promote volunteering in nature on the morning of April 21st and attending the Earth Day Marin Festival afterwards to celebrate! Thanks to our major sponsors: County of Marin Board of Supervisors, Good Earth Natural Foods, Marin Clean Energy, Whole Foods Market, Families for Clean Air, The Pacific Sun, and Marin County Bicycle Coalition. This year Conservation Corps North Bay crews will be on hand in an effort to make the Earth Day Marin a zero waste event! Working in conjunction with Marin Sanitary Service and Revolutionary Green, CCNB corpsmembers will staff several zero waste eco-stations consisting of composting and recycling receptacles. Funding for this effort has been made possible through a County of Marin, Joint Powers Authority Zero Waste Grant and CalRecycle.
The Earth Day Marin Festival takes place at the Marin Civic Center Lagoon Park in San Rafael.
