-SF: Friday, October 7, 4:30 p.m., new Federal Building, 7th & Mission St.

-Occupy Wall St. movement spreads to many cities large and small

The people’s movement is surging forward from New York City, where more than 700 people were arrested on Oct. 1 on the Brooklyn Bridge as part of the Occupy Wall Street actions, to California, and countless cities and towns in between. This coming Friday, October 7, will mark the exact tenth anniversary of the U.S./NATO war in Afghanistan. Marches, rallies and other actions are planned in many cities across the country and world from Oct. 6-8.

In San Francisco, we will gather on Friday, Oct. 7th, 4:30 pm at the new Federal Bldg. Mission and 7th Sts. for a rally, die-in, and march to demand an end to the wars and occupations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Haiti and everywhere, and money for jobs, healthcare and schools, not the war machine! The march will end at the boycotted Grand Hyatt hotel, Stockton & Sutter, in solidarity with the Local 2 hotel workers who have waged a long struggle for a new contract. Along the way, there will be symbolic “die-in” commemorating the millions killed and wounded in the wars.

The Oct. 7 march was initiated by the ANSWER Coalition-San Francisco, and endorsed by many organizations including: UNITE HERE Lo. 2; World Can’t Wait; Code Pink; International Longshore & Warehouse Union, Lo. 10; SF Unitarian Universalists for Peace & Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists Soclal Justice Committee; AF3IRM; Teachers for Public Education, Progressive Student Union; Middle East Children’s Alliance; ALIADI; No. CA United National Antiwar Committee; Peace & Justice Center of Sonoma County; Party for Socialism & Liberation; Tenants Associations Coalition-SF; California Peace & Freedom Party; National Coalition for Blacks for Reparations in America; National Committee to Free the Cuban Five; SF October 2011 Solidarity Coalition; and others.

Volunteers and donations are urgently needed. For more details, see http://www.answersf,org or contact answer [at] answersf.org, or call our office at 415-821-6545.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, the “Stop the Machine” action will begin at Freedom Plaza in Washington DC. A solidarity activity will take place here in San Francisco, with a rally from 3-5:30 p.m. at the new Federal Building, 7th & Mission Sts., followed by a general assembly in the Koret Auditorium, SF Main Library, Grove & Larkin Sts. This action is sponsored by SF October 2011 Solidarity Coalition and supported by many organizations including the ANSWER Coalition.
