Japanese Labor Activists on Shutdown of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant

by Doro Chiba International Labor Solidarity
Kan administration asked Chubu Electric Power Company (CHUBU) to halt operation of the Hamaoka nuclear power plant, and CHUBU has reluctantly accepted Prime Minister KAN Naoto’s request.
Kan is driven into a very corner by the flashing anger of the affected people and anti-nuke demonstrations, and this is his last hope that a fraud of ”suspending” operation of Hamaoka might put escalating anti-nuke movement to rest.
We won't take it! We will trigger a domino effect of shutdown of all nuclear power plants and force Kan and 9 electric power companies to demolish all of them.

The united power of working class and people alone can create future!
Stop mass dismissal of one million under the pretext of the huge quake!
Abolish nuclear plants by the power of international solidarity!

Although estimates varied widely, Doro Chiba and other activists on the ground say it was at least 10,000. Japanese authorities downplayed that number to "several thousand".
