Please join us for a special event to raise funds for one of Oakland’s greatest assets, the Oakland School for the Arts. this year’s event will build on the success of last year’s, with the theme Defying Gravity – our 2010-11 school motto. Sponsored by the Alliance of Parents and Teachers (APT) at OSA (http://www.aptosa.org), the gala will celebrate our wonderful school, our amazing and talented kids, and the generosity of the community. All funds raised will support the enrichment of our students’ experience at OSA.

Featuring a silent auction, appetizers, entertainment and a no-host bar, this adults-only event will take place on Saturday, February 5 from 6:30 to 10:00pm at Uptown Body and Fender at 401 26th Street in Oakland. This local Oakland business has been the site of fundraising and other events for organizations ranging from the Boys and Girls Club to Claremont Middle School to Zanzibar Puppet Theater. Admission will be a very low $15 per person ($20 at the door).

Oakland School for the Arts is a public charter school located in the historic Fox Theater in downtown Oakland, with a mission to provide students with intensive pre-professional training in the arts, while maintaining high academic standards within a college preparatory curriculum. It is also the only school of its kind in California that serves students from grade 6-12. In 2009, it was only one of seven high schools in Alameda County to be recognized as a California Distinguished School: an honor given to only 10% of California’s middle and high schools (see link here: http://www.cde.ca.gov/nr/ne/yr09/yr09rel48.asp).
