An evening full of big names, big ideas, and big adventures!

INFORUM presents….
What's "The Economy" For Anyway?

A diverse group of thinkers explores the very purpose of capitalist economies and debates the merits of our way of thinking.

Annie Leonard, Documentarian, The Story of Stuff
Colin Beavan, Author, No Impact Man
David Batker, Executive Director, Earth Economics
Chip Giller, Founder and President, Grist - Moderator

While the economy hums away in an uncertain environment, some people question the basic purpose of the capitalist market: to provide iPhones to the masses, or to provide food to the needy? What is the role of the government as trust in the free market falters? "No impact man" Beavan opts out of the system completely, Leonard tells us the true "story of stuff," and Batker applies economic theory toward protecting the environment. Giller, Grist's "beacon in the smog," will help us unpack these perspectives and navigate the global economy - what it's really for and who needs it.

After this all-star panel, a unique and hands-on reception unfolds. Enjoy delicious local food and sips from Back To Earth Organic Catering; view screenings of No Impact Man, Story of Stuff, and What’s the Economy For, Anyway?; receive book giveaways and get them signed; turn calendars into gift bags with SCRAP; register to vote; and create tin can succulent gardens and jam jar terrariums, guided by Spare Room Project. Bring a jar with a lid to first drink from, then plant your garden-to-go in it! Plus, this phenomenal engagement will be set to the INFORUM team’s custom made party playlist! This is an evening not to be missed.
