6.00pm Social
6.30-7.00pm Talk by Prakash Belawadi
7.00-7.30pm Q&A
In the last decade, Bangalore has become the fastest growing city in
India and an important node in the global economy. Prakash Belawadi
will discuss the cultural politics of today's Bangalore, from film to
theatre and language identity politics. The impact of Bangalore's rise
to global status is felt in the lives of ordinary Bangaloreans who are
increasingly trapped in the turbulent, casino-like highs and lows of
the new economy. For the past decade, Prakash Belawadi has been a
chronicler of the changing lives of Bangaloreans through film,
theatre, journalism, and fiction. In looking at the lives of
Bangaloreans, Belawadi wonders if the Bangalore he is seeing is our
future well.
