Free State Established in San Francisco

A small collective established a free state in the city of San Francisco in the spirit of Earth First! in mid April. This is the first public announcement that a free state exists in San Francisco, the "Avalon Autonomous Free State". The Free State seeks supporters and additional members of Free State Collective to help build an alternative society based on living in harmony with nature and the earth and it's inhabitants. Avalon Autonomous Free State Constitution


Whereas individuals have the right to come together and form a nation based on their conscience. Whereas we as free thinking individuals declare our collective freedom as absolute but recognizing our deep social relationships to our ecology and our species declare that as free individuals we have the inalienable right to declare our freedom from coercion that is no longer based upon the mutual intelligence of free citizens rather is based on the limited goals of economic power thus declare our freedom from the slavery of the corporate controlled state and it's instruments of coercion namely the Law. As free people we bare allegiance to no higher authority then each other united in our mutual aid and collective well being shall act in accordance to the Common Good and promote freedom within ourselves and each other to collectively seek out a way that lives in harmony with our deep ecology and social relationships to our fellow human beings. Thus we declare our freedom from the State, we reject the notion that the state shall limit freedom on individuals to live in communities of their choosing. As members of the the Avalon Free State we declare our independence from the state, corporate rule and coercion. The following guidelines shall be followed by members of the Avalon Autonomous Free State (AAFS).


Article I Government by Consensus
The Free State shall be governed by consensus or the shared collective intelligence of all people living in the free state through mutual consultation. The Free State may make new policies based on consensus, the active consultation of all citizens of the Free State.


Article II Religious Freedom
The Free State shall not have any restrictions on Religious Freedom, nor have a official religion or institutional religious instruments (priests or other authority figures).


Article III Deep Ecology
The Free State shall be based on the principles of Deep Ecology, that Nature is sacred and shall be revered and human impact on the ecology shall be intended with as little harm as possible on the environment. The Free State is holds permacultural techniques as a basis of development and planning, as well Eco-Village structures shall be employed.


Article IV Anti-Oppression
The Free State shall deal actively with helping members become as free as possible from oppressive behaviour as defined via consensus of the members of the Free State, while recognizing that ending oppression is both a communal and individual process we shall not judge each other regarding our honest efforts in fighting internalized oppression and external behavior.


Article V Economic Exploitation
The Free State shall be run via collective labor where all members are expected to produce for the collective good. At no time will capitalization on labor in any way be accepted. All economic exchanges in the free state shall be based on mutual aid ("gift economy").


Article VI We are a Nation
The Free State is a nation of people based on shared principles of mutual aid and mutual liberation. We are an Independent Nation in the tradition of Western Democratic struggles, we are not subject to the Laws of other Nations. As well each member of the Free State shall have their individual rights protected by the collective security of the Nation.


Article VII Self-Defense
The Free State shall only practice self defense. Members of the Free State shall not engage in oppressive criminality but will support the common wealth equally among all Free State members.
