Restore the Delta: Attend the Town Hall Meetings Next Week!
Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, campaign director of Restore the Delta, is urging opponents of the peripheral canal to attend these "Town Hall" meetings about the future of the California Delta next week in Suisun City, Walnut Grove and Stockton.
"Let's make it clear that the estimated $4 to $17 billon that would be spent on a peripheral canal should, instead, be spent on improving Delta levees, creating a comprehensive and well funded emergency response plan, and supporting regional water projects throughout California that would lessen dependence on Delta water exports," said Barrigan-Parrilla.
It crucial that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger be stopped in his drive to build the peripheral canal to divert more water from the California Delta. In fact, Central Valley fall chinook salmon populations have collapsed and delta smelt, longfin smelt, threadfin shad and juvenile striped bass populations have declined to record low levels because too much water has been exported from the estuary to agribusiness and southern California in recent years. The peripheral canal - called "conveyance" by Schwarznegger - will only make these fisheries even worse.

Restore the Delta is asking you to take special action on behalf of protecting the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
Thank you for your support for the Delta.

Action Alert: Town Hall Meetings Next Week!
The California Resources Agency is holding a series of Town Hall Meetings as part of their effort to "engage in dialogue" with local Delta residents regarding the Delta Vision Process, the Bay Delta Conservation Plan, Delta emergency response planning, flood planning, and Delta habitat restoration.
Restore the Delta staff looks at these meetings with a bit of cynical eye because our state agencies have shown an unwillingness to alter their pursuit of building a peripheral canal after listening to our community comments repeatedly. We, nonetheless, believe in making our point clear whenever and wherever possible. The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta cannot be restored, for fishing or farming, if our last major fresh water source is diverted from entering the Delta.
Therefore, we hope that you, our Restore the Delta supporters, can attend one of the following Town Hall Meetings next week! Let's pack the rooms and make our opposition clear regarding the state's desire to export even more water from the Delta.
