The only reason the media is having such a field day with the FLDS is because there connection with mormonism. The practice of polygamy served a purpose in a specific time, but it is an idea whose time has past. Yet there are still many cultures that practice it. In order for these sociaties and cultures to move on into the 21st century, women must be given full civil rights. This includes the right to education, health care, contraception, and equal civil standing in the law as men. I have a feeling we don't look too deeply at other cultures that have transplanted here in the US that have polygamus tendancies because we don't want to appear "intolerant" "ethnocentric" or "racist".
