Don't blame Universalists for "ex-gay" preacher
B.A.R. reported on Aug. 7 sermon in Dolores Park, SF, by
an "ex-gay" minister.
an "ex-gay" minister.
To the Bay Area Reporter:
"Ex-gay" evangelist Sidney Reddy, preaching in San Francisco's Mission district,
was quoted as saying that he had been converted by "an American Universalist evangelist" in South Africa [B.A.R., 12 August 2004]. If Mr. Reddy was quoted correctly, that would be a surprising claim.
In the 18th century, Universalists believed in universal salvation for all, and rejected the possibility of eternal damnation. In the 20th century, they merged with the Unitarians, to form the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), which strongly supports equal human rights for all, including us queers.
