Blame SF Board of Supes for Allowing Biotech Conference

by San Francisco Voter
These conferences are only invited to San Francisco to make money for San Francisco. Since the massive, expensive police presence was obviously planned, then the Board of Supervisors knew that this biotech conference could not make money for the City and at that point, they should have told the conference organizers to find another city for their conference because we cannot afford to waste and lose money.

Since the massive, expensive police presence was obviously planned, then the Board of Supervisors knew that this biotech conference could not make money for the City and at that point, they should have told the conference organizers to find another city for their conference because we cannot afford to waste and lose money.

We are under siege in the downtown, Nob Hill and South of Market area from noisy helicopters from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, when NO HELICOPTERS are needed for any crowd control or fighting crime whatsoever. This is a complete, insulting waste of our tax dollars and oil. Some of these helicopters appear to be California Highway Patrol. There are also some small planes flying round and round. There is absolutely no reason for any avaition patrol whatosever. These planes and helicopters clearly exist to terrorize those of us who live and work here.

Call, write, Email and/or fax all 11 members of the Board of Supervisors and demand that they NEVER AGAIN allow any conference to be in San Francisco if it is so controversial as to require not only massive police presence, but traffic directors, Department of Public Works trucks, and loss of our buses. We had no buses this morning, 6/8, going down Fourth Street as the police had closed 4th Street at Market. That means the electric 30 Stockton and 45 Union-Stockton buses were out of service until 1 p.m. or so. These buses go through crowded Chinatown, and deliver people to work and homes in the South of Market area, and vice versa back to the Northeast end of town.

Further, all traffic was bumper to bumper on Market and Mission and it as backed up for miles around the downtown area, for many hours. This is called destroying business in downtown San Francisco, the heart of the business district. The Board of Supervisors is to blame for all of this since this conference could have and should have been told to find another city.

The entire Board of Supervisors knew that this conference would LOSE MONEY because it was controversial. Thus, they should pay for the massive police presence out of their own pockets.

You can reach the 11 members of the Board of Supervisors as follows. The mailing address is City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton Goodlett, San Francisco, CA 94102. They all have voice mail so you can call at any time and leave a message:
