November 30th Day of Action Against Executions
Local Protests and Screenings to Draw Attention to Case of Stanley Tookie Williams
November 30th was a Statewide Day of Action Against the Scheduled Executions, in conjunction with World Cities Against the Death Penalty Day. Rallies and Press Conferences were held in front of City Halls and other locations across the state of California and in over 300 cities across the world, calling for a halt to all executions-- in particular the impending execution of Stanley Tookie Williams. The cities of Santa Cruz, West Hollywood and Berkeley have officially signed up as "Cities Against the Death Penalty" and each commemorated the day by lighting up a city monument.

Local cities that held rallies on Wednesday, November 30th at 12pm included San Francisco (imc_photo.gif Photos), Sacramento, Santa Cruz (imc_photo.gif Photos), Woodland, and San Jose. Rallies also took place in San Rafael at 4:30pm at San Rafael Plaza, and in Fremont outside of Mission San Jose at 7:15am. "Redemption," the film about Tookie Williams, was screened that night at the Black Repertory Theater in Berkeley. Angela Davis was one of the speakers at a Forum on the Death Penalty and Stanley Williams at UC Santa Cruz. A panel discussion about the death penalty was held at San Francisco State University at 7:30pm on Thursday, December 1st. More local events.
